Chepalungu Forest Stewardship Initiative (CFSI)

The Chepalungu Forest Stewardship Initiative (CFSI) is a five-year, community-driven effort to restore and protect the Chepalungu Forest a vital environmental and economic resource for generations. Rooted in environmental stewardship and local participation, the program promotes sustainable forest management, tree planting, and biodiversity conservation while empowering nearby communities with green livelihoods.
CFSI engages local youth, women’s groups, and schools in tree-planting campaigns, environmental education, and climate action projects. The initiative also supports agroforestry, beekeeping, and eco-tourism activities that create income while preserving nature. By involving community members as active stewards, CFSI builds ownership and ensures lasting impact.
In addition to reforestation, the program advocates for sustainable land use and environmental awareness among farmers and policymakers. Through collaboration with county governments, conservation agencies, and partners, CFSI aims to restore forest cover, improve water catchment areas, and mitigate climate change effects in Bomet County and beyond.
Ultimately, the Chepalungu Forest Stewardship Initiative is about growing more than trees it’s about cultivating a culture of environmental responsibility, resilience, and hope for a greener, more sustainable future.
