Waste Wise Markets Project
The HSF is uniquely positioned to amplify the Waste Wise Markets Project a transformative UN-Habitat initiative tackling urban waste crises by fostering circular economies in markets and communities. By diverting waste from landfills, promoting recycling, and curbing pollution and enhancing city livability
HSF contributes profoundly through targeted interventions. First, its education mandate enables awareness campaigns in Bomet’s bustling markets, teaching vendors and residents about waste segregation, composting, and upcycling directly reducing the 35+ tons of annual market waste seen in similar programs. Secondly, poverty eradication aligns seamlessly with Waste Wise’s job-creation focus; HSF trains marginalized youth as waste entrepreneurs, establishing collection cooperatives that generate income from recyclables, echoing EPA Waste Wise models where partners cut emissions while boosting local economies.
